Good vision is fundamental to a child's development, learning, hand - eye coordination and social confidence(1-3).
Evidence has demonstrated that treating vision problems in childhood leads to improved academic performance, increased engagement in extra- curricular activities, and expanded future career opportunities(4-6). Nicola has over 20 years’ experience in paediatric eye exams and enjoys building a rapport with young people. She takes into account each child’s abilities, symptoms and visual needs. Nicola is passionate about working together with parents, other healthcare professionals and education providers to ensure that they are well informed of a child’s visual function.
If you have noticed any turn in your child’s eyes, red eyes, increased blinking, or avoidance of certain tasks, you should book a Children’s eye exam as soon as possible to discuss your concerns and have your child’s vision assessed. However, it’s important to know that many children’s eye and vision problems have no obvious signs. Therefore, all children, even in the absence of any signs of symptoms, should have an eye exam before starting school, and at regular intervals thereafter*. Childrens’ initial eye examinations are bulk billed to Medicare at Onèj Optometry. Further testing may attract a private fee, but you will be informed of this ahead of time.
