Onèj (“on/edge”) is a project built upon family, a deep love of the eyes, vision and design, and a belief in the Australian made ethos.
Onèj Optometry is a small Australian family business, directed by optometrist Nicola Mountford and eyewear designer Orani Lancaster. Nicola has spent the last 18 months seeking the edge where clinical expertise and design ingenuity meet, and Orani has completed some of the most intensive and prestigious eyewear crafting courses in the world, including learning under the guidance of Patrice Pontent in France, and Matej Prokop in Spain. Her skills and passion will be tangible at Onèj, where we have the only purpose-built in-store eyewear-making workshop of its kind in Australia.
Both Nicola and Orani thrive off meeting people, engaging in cheerful conversation, and bringing old-fashioned genuine service to the most contemporary, cutting-edge product offerings in optics.

Nicola Mountford
Nicola’s 20 years in the profession of optometry have been diverse and incredibly rewarding. She loves that optometry allows her to meet new people everyday, get to know them, and find solutions for their vision that optimise sight, nurture eye health, and manage eye disease. Her approach to patients is one of thoroughness, kindness, good communication, and clinical excellence. Nicola will help you to understand any issues with your eyes and vision, and offer various solutions tailored to your individual circumstances.
Orani Lancaster
Orani grew up by the Glennifer river in Belligen, and brings to Onèj her innate creativity, discerning mindset, and natural ability to craft. Orani’s industrious and inquisitive approach to learning has resulted in her building custom tools for eyewear design and mastering some of the most complex processes in temple and hinge construction. Orani is the quintessential all rounder- she has previous experience in HR, systems development, and general dentistry and now divides her time between eyewear making and undertaking a dental subspecialty in IV sedation. Orani’s warm nature and positive outlook shine through in all that she does at Onèj.
